Hebron Mayor KhaledOsaily met today in his office with the British Consul General Mr. Richard Makepeace. The meeting aimed at briefing Mr. Makepeace on general conditions and daily life in Hebron as well as on the important resolutions recently adopted by Unesco concerning Palestinian archeological sites.
During the meeting, Mayor Osaily said that conditions in Hebron go against agreements signed between the PNA and the Israeli government under international auspices.“The USA and the quartet must intervene to put an end to settlement expansion, to safeguard regional peace, to follow-up on Unesco resolutions and to lobby for the inscription of Hebron on Unesco’s World Heritage List”, he said.
Osaily also spoke about means to develop and strengthen economic conditions in Hebron in order to ensure that the city and its various sectors develop in a comprehensive and organized manner. This, he said, shall improve the daily life of citizens and shall enhance the Municipality’s capacity to improve the quality of services provided to inhabitants.Furthermore, Mayor Osaily touched on “C” areas which are under Israeli security and administrative control. This, he explained, limits the possibility of implementing development projects in the city that would serve the Palestinian economy in general and Hebron’s economy in particular.
Mayor Osaily briefed his guest on key projects implemented in Hebron as well as on those underway. “By focusing on projects targeting youths as well as on job creating projects for recent graduates we aim at offering a bigger opportunity for young people to develop their capacities and polish their skills”, he added.
At the end of the meeting, Mr. Makepeace praised Hebron Municipality for its work as well as for its capacity to implement numerous vital projects. He also underlined the importance of inscribing Hebron on the WHL given the city’s heritage and history.
Osaily presented to his guest the Al Ibrahimi Mosque Shield in recognition of his support to Hebron, its institutions and its population.
