Hebron Mayor Khaled Osaily met today on 16 October in his office with Mr. Imad Al Sa’ed, First Technical Advisor to the UNDP Local Government Support Program as well as with a number of other experts. The meeting aimed at examining the compatibility of the Local Government Support Program with the State-Building Program announced by Prime Minister Fayyad as well as the role played by the Local Government sector in developing the national economy.
After his words of welcome, Osaily spoke about his vision for the development of the city and its various sectors. He touched on efforts to implement youths and sports projects and their impact on the local community. He also spoke about the development of the city’s infrastructure in order to ensure urban, industrial and cultural prosperity that is creative and innovative.
Osaily explained to his guests the efforts made by Hebron Municipality to develop the city’s economy, drive commercial activity, support industrial activity, mainly artifacts, as well as partnerships to implement economic activities with the private sector and other institutions working in this field in Hebron.
Osaily touched on facilities given by the Municipality to Palestinian investors, such as guarantees to encourage investments in the Governoarte and create a unique state of openness and cooperation with the private sector in order to create jobs, limit soaring unemployment levels and provide a decent living to thousands of unemployed graduates.
Osaily spoke about partnerships and cooperation between local authorities in Palestinian Governorates, such as the Solid Waste Management Project implemented jointly between Hebron and Bethlehem Governorates. Such cooperation is primordial, he said, given its impact on the economic situation in both Governorates as it helps create jobs, reduces the cost of disposing of solid waste, and is a better future option as it allows to gather the waste of both Governorates in one modern and fully equipped dump.
“This visit to Hebron aims at examining the compatibility of the Local Government Support Program in the OPT implemented by UNDP with the State-Building Porgram and Plan put forward by Prime Minister Fayyad”, Mr. Al Sa’ed said. It also aims at examining the role play by local authorities in building the Palestinian State and developing the national economy through developing the local economy.
At the end of the meeting, both parties agreed to continue their common action and to implement various cooperation mechanisms in order to serve the public interest.
