Hebron Mayor and USAID Delegation Visit Joint Projects

Osaily initiated the meeting by expressing appreciation to the American people and their government for their support to Palestinians and for the projects implemented through USAID. He underlined the importance of implementing additional projects in view of improving citizens’ lives and creating job opportunities to cut unemployment rates in Palestine.

Osaily stated that USAID plays an important role in improving infrastructure projects in Hebron and that the projects presently under way, including the rehabilitation and paving of many roads, bore witness to the active and joint cooperation in achieving and realizing priority and vital projects for the benefit of the city’s residents.

Concerning vital and essential projects for which Hebron Municipality sought financing, Osaily said that there was urgent need for infrastructure projects related to water, roads, youths, and schools, as well as for projects which would secure job opportunities for new graduates and the unemployed.

He added that USAID has played a major role in support of many projects in Hebron and other Palestinian governorates and that he was hoping for more support and more projects to be implemented in Hebron, one of the largest and most populated governorates.

Osaily accompanied the delegation on a tour visit to a number of various projects including the Remote Water Control Unit where they were given a detailed explanation of how the unit operates and its significance for optimal control over the water sector. They also heard about the project’s technical and economic benefits, and its impact on improving services provided to citizens.

On his part, Mr. Al Rifai said that USAID was committed to providing more support to vital and essential projects in the Palestinian territories in order to improve citizens’ lives and provide them with well-being and a dignified life. He promised to study projects submitted by Hebron Municipality and provide support and assistance to urgent one. He also assured that continued effective cooperation with the Municipality would be consolidated and that new joint projects would be created.
