Hebron Mayor discusses joint projects with a KOICA delegation

Hebron Mayor KhaledOsaily discussed on 18 June 2011 joint projects and joint action mechanismswith Ms.Young Inn Kim, Middle East and Afghanistan Officer at the Korean Agency for International Cooperation (KOICA), Professor Min Kim, Representative of SCH University and supervisor of the Korean-Palestinian Cultural Center project and several engineers from KOICA.

At the beginning of the meeting held at Hebron Municipality, Osaily spoke about the Korean-Palestinian Cultural Center project which shall be inaugurated in the coming few days at a cost estimated at 6.5 million USD provided as a grant by the Korean Government through KOICA. The Center includes a comprehensive school and a youths activity center which is the first of its kind in Palestine.

According to Osaily, the Centre reflects the honorability of the Korean Government and people. Osaily lauded efforts by all officials who worked to ensure the success of this project, underlining the exceptional role played by KOICA in Palestine. “This Center shall be a Center for the Korean people in Palestine. Its success story is an example that should be multiplied”, he added.

Osaily also presented his vision regarding the development of young people, enabling them to be unique and polishing their talents by providing them with the necessary infrastructure to build their capacities and turn them into future leaders. “Young people constitute the majority of Palestinians. Many changes and developments have occurred to the benefit of youths in Hebron thanks to activities by the Child Happiness Center, the Skarek Center, Al Hussain International Stadium, Hebron Municipality’s Indoor Sports Hall and TareqIbnZiyad community center. These centers have helped unleash the potential of young people hungry for such spaces to prove themselves and to succeed”, he added.

Ms. Inn Kim spoke in admiration of progress made at the Palestinian-Korean Center and school. She underlined the deep cooperation between KOICA and Hebron Municipality on all levels as well as the facilities provided by the Municipality to ensure the success of this project. She lauded activities implemented by the Municipality to the benefit of youngsters, adolescents and children, adding that this was the biggest KOICA achievement in Palestine so far. “High level representatives from KOICA and the University shall be present at the Center’s inauguration ceremony. Hebron Municipality is a “special partner” and has provided huge facilities for the creation of this Center and school. Many projects are implemented by KOICA in Palestine, and I look forward to more cooperation with the Municipality in the future”, she added.

At the end of the meeting, Professor Kim said that the great and unique cooperation with Hebron Municipality and its staff witnessed throughout the project execution phase provides impetus for further cooperation and joint action. He called for the implementation of additional projects in Hebron and for more cooperation for the public good and to serve Palestinians, especially young people.

The delegation also visited the Indoor sports Hall, the site of the Korean-Palestinian Center and Hebron Municipality’s child Happiness center where they witnessed several activities and events targeting youths and children.
