Osaily calls on the WB Country Director to support water and wastewater sectors in Hebron

At the beginning of the meeting, Osaily spoke about service sectors in Hebron Governorate including water, wastewater, electricity, solid waste and transportation. He listed the priorities and needs of Hebron inhabitants and called for support to these sectors which are given priority by Hebron Governorate as they constitute key sectors and fulfill the basic needs of local communities.

Osaily touched on flagship projects implemented by his Municipality, mainly the Remote Control System for the Hebron Water Network which greatly improves the quality of services provided and the GIS which is one of the most advanced such systems in Palestine. “These systems are in line with the Municipality’s policy aimed at using state-of-the-art technology to manage the services it provides”, he said.

Osaily also touched on a number of strategic projects underway or already implemented by Hebron Municipality, such as the indoor sports hall, Al Hussein Stadium, cultural centers andAbdullah Bin Abdulaziz City for Charity Housing, the first phase of which has been finalized.

In reply to a question by Ms. Sherman about Hebron’s future strategy,Osaily said that developing water and wastewater services, mainly the building of a wastewater treatment plant, developing vital facilities and creating cultural centers are among the Municipality’s key priorities, adding that several strategies have been drafted to this end.

Ms. Sherman said that her visit to Hebron Municipality aims at getting acquainted with general conditions and needs as well as at learning more about the solid waste management project in Hebron and Bethlehem Governorates implemented with direct support from the WB. Following a visit to municipal sections in charge of the Remote Control System for the Hebron Water Network, electricity, GIS and Customer Services, inter alia, she expressed her satisfaction with projects’ state of implementation as well as with developments witnessed at Hebron Municipality’s sections and in the fields of water, electricity, information systems, services and administrative procedures implemented at the Municipality.

At the end of the meeting, Ms. Sherman promised to follow-up on future projects implemented by Hebron Municipality especially in the fields of water and wastewater.
